Challenge #86: Dialogue

Many apologies for being away so long! My life is pretty hectic at the moment, but I finally remembered to take time off to give you all another challenge. A big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] lasairfhiona for being slightly more responsible than myself - I couldn't keep the community going without her! :~D

Also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lasairfhiona and [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405 for answering the last challenge!

~*~

The next challenge involves dialogue, and the easiest way of doing this is to write a drabble where someone are talking. Now I know dialogue is usually supposed to include only two people, but as long as there is actual speech you can have any number of people talking. Is Anita confessing her innermost secrets to Sigmund the penguin? Are Jean-Claude and Richard trying to be civil to each other? Is the pard involved in a lively discussion? Anything is possible!

~*~

Both simple (100 words) and double (200 words) drabbles are welcome, and so are crossovers. As always, please comment with feedback, challenge ideas, and anything else you can think of. Challenge ideas are especially welcome! Also, please put any The Harlequin spoilers under an lj-cut.

The next challenge will perhaps be issued Sunday 9/12.

Challenge #83: Nature

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kayki2487 for answering the current challenge, and to the ever faithful [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405 for answering an earlier challenge!

~*~

This time the challenge is about nature in its many forms. There's lots to choose from here, whether you want to write about the leafy kind of nature, the nature of things or animals, or perhaps even human nature. Have fun!

Challenge #82: Triangles

So it seems like us mods have decided to take an early summer holiday... sorry about that! Here's another challenge to tide you over for a while, and thanks for keeping the drabbles coming during the wait! :~)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] roguetailkinker and [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405 for answering both the current and earlier challengenges!

~*~

This challenge is all about triangles. Geometrically the most stable shape there is, but socially a triangle might be very unstable indeed. The Richard/Anita/Jean-Claude triumvirate springs to mind, but there are other triumvirates, and also many other triangles of people that you can play with. And of course you don't have to drabble about people. You might as well write about an occult symbol, triangle-shaped furniture, or just someone starting a game of pool...

Both simple (100 words) and double (200 words) drabbles are welcome. As always, please comment with feedback, challenge ideas, and anything else you can think of. Challenge ideas are especially welcome! Also, please put any Danse Macabre spoilers under an lj-cut.

The next challenge will hopefully be issued some time around Sunday 22/7.

~*~

The next challenge is about the games people play. Maybe someone are enjoying a boardgame or a friendly challenge of cards, or maybe the stakes are a lot higher..? People also play other kinds of games with each other, both mindgames and more physical (or perhaps even sexual) ones. As usual, the possibilities are endless, so have fun!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords and [livejournal.com profile] ladykerradine for answering the last challenge, and also to [livejournal.com profile] ladykerradine for two other drabbles!

~*~

This challenge is about belief, not just the religious kind but all kinds of belief. We know quite a bit about what Anita believes in, but what about some of the other characters? What does a vampire believe in, for instance? Or how about poor conflicted Richard? And Edward - does he believe in anything at all? The possibilities are, as usual, endless. :~)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords for answering the last challenge, and to [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405 for 6 other drabbles!

~*~

The next challenge is about crossovers, and one I've been wanting to give for a long time now! The rules are simple: cross the Anitaverse with any fandom you like, and basically just enjoy yourselves! Here's your chance to explore the differences and likenesses of werewolves and vampires from different universes, to have your favourite characters meet, or to put our Anitaverse heroes in new and wacky situations.

Just remember: There are more fandoms out there than those of Harry Potter and Buffy the Vampire Slayer! ;~P

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kayki2487 for the three drabbles for challenge #70, Foundling.

Challenge #71 - Guilty Pleasures: Time to kick it old school. Your drabble should be related in some way to the events in the first Anita Blake book, "Guilty Pleasures". Either set in that time, referring back to the events of the book, anything you want. Surprise us!

If you have any questions, please ask. If you have any comments on the community or ideas for future drabble challenges, put them here as a comment.

Happy November. Team Necromancer wins, thanks to the three drabbles by [livejournal.com profile] brisketbunny and [livejournal.com profile] lasairfhiona.

Challenge #70 - Foundling: The Anita Blake books have a high proportion of thrown-away children, abandoned by society and tossed into the corners. Tell us about the foundlings of Anita's world, of those children no one wanted.

If you have any questions, please ask. If you have any comments on the community or ideas for future drabble challenges, put them here as a comment.

Challenge #69 - Numbers

What a turnout this week! In the first-ever team competition, team Necromancer and team Lyncathrope tied, due to [livejournal.com profile] lasairfhiona's excellent drabbles. In total, we had 11 entries for challenge #68, from [livejournal.com profile] brisketbunny, [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405, [livejournal.com profile] imationrain, [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords, and [livejournal.com profile] lasairfhiona. We also had two entries to past challenges from [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405. Well done, everyone!

Challenge #69 - Numbers: What do numbers have to do with the Anita Blake world? Well, how many people is Nathaniel inviting to dinner? How many times has Anita's car been eaten by werehyenas? How many vampires are in a kiss? It's all about the numbers, folks.

Why, what did you think I was going to make challenge 69 about?

If you have any questions, ask me! If you have any comments on the community or ideas for future drabble challenges, put them here as a comment.

Both single (100 words) and double (200 words) drabbles are welcome. Please feel free to comment with feedback and challenge ideas. The next challenge will be issued Sunday, Oct. 28. Please put any Micah and Danse Macabre spoilers under a cut, and add a note at the top.

Challenge #68 and new rules for community

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sabriel_0405 and [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords for the drabbles over the past few weeks.

New Community Rules

After the feedback from my questions on Sept. 18, I've decided to make a few changes to the way things run around here, in the interest of getting more community activity.

1: Teams -- Starting with this challenge, we'll be running team challenges. The way this will work is that if you choose to drabble for the current challenge, you will include what team you are writing for. The team with the most drabbles at the end of the challenge "win". What do they win? Lots of love.

So if you choose to partake in the team challenge, your drabble heading will look like this:
Title:
Word count: (100 or 200)
Characters/pairings:
Challenge:
Author's note: (If any)
Team:

Teams will be Vampires, Necromancers and Lycanthropes. (Hat-tip to the PDS drabble challenge for the idea for team names)

2. Write all challenges! Some people have mentioned that they would like to go back and write to old challenges. We had a policy a while ago that if you wanted to do that, you had to write the current challenge, but we're changing that back to the old way. Write to any challenge you want! The list of all challenges is on the [livejournal.com profile] abvh100 community profile page.

Please note that only entries for the current challenge will be eligible for the team challenge.

3. More time -- I've been slack in my modly duties, for which I apologize. It's now official, that there are to be two weeks for each challenge.

I hope these changes will make it easier to participate in the community.

Challenge #68 - Nathaniel: As a follow-up to our drabble challenges about Edward, Richard, Jean-Claude and Micah, it's now time to drabble about Nathaniel! What is he like away from Anita? What does he do when he's at home alone? Why did he become a stripper? Does he like coffee? All drabbles need to have some tie to everyone's favourite submissive wereleopard.

15. Please put any Micah and Danse Macabre spoilers under a cut, and add a note at the top.

Mod poll -- participation

Hi everyone. A modly post to ask an important question: Where is everyone? Participation is way down, and I'd like to a) poll you and b) ask for your opinions on the matter.

[Poll #824584]

b) please feel free to offer your suggestions, ideas, and other commentary on the state of the ABVH100 drabble community. A community is only as good as its members, and we've got some stellar people around here.

Challenge #67, Anita Blake Remix, will run until Sept. 24, 2006.
Entry tags:

Challenge #67 - Anita Blake, Remix

Much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ashersembrace for the drabble for challenge #66, Unlikely Pals, sneaking in just under the wire.

Challenge #67 - Anita Blake, Remix: This is a bit of a different challenge for us. What you're going to do is to set your drabble in an Anita Blake book. It can be a missing scene, a scene from the point of view of a different character, characters talking about a past incident from the book.

Please note: It would be really easy to copy all dialogue from one scene, so I'm dusting off the rarely used rulebook and will say this: You can use no more than ten words of dialogue from a book in your drabble. If you do use LKH's dialogue, you must make a note of the chapter number.

Example info at top of drabble:
~~~~~~
Title: Dead Man's Tie
Character(s): Anita, Willie McCoy
Challenge: #67 - AB Remix
Book: Guilty Pleasures (dialogue from chapter 1)
Spoiler note: GP
Word Count: 100/200
~~~~~~

If you have any questions, ask me! If you have any comments on the community or ideas for future drabble challenges, put them here!

Both single (100 words) and double (200 words) drabbles are welcome. Please feel free to comment with feedback and challenge ideas. The next challenge will be issued Sunday, Sept. 16. Please put any Micah and Danse Macabre spoilers under a cut, and add a note at the top.

Challenge #66: Unlikely Pals

Hey everyone! Time for a new challenge. My fellow mod [livejournal.com profile] waterfall8484 is taking a small break from the community, so I'll be posting the next few challenges.

Challenge #66 - Unlikely Pals: Who don't we ever see in a scene together? Drabble them! Zerbrowski and Willie McCoy? Jean-Claude and Edward? Heck, can't you just see Micah v. Richard v. Asher? Oh, consider the fun we can have.

Both single (100 words) and double (200 words) drabbles are welcome. Please feel free to comment with feedback and challenge ideas. The next challenge will be issued Sunday, Sept. 10.

Please put any Micah and Danse Macabre spoilers under a cut, and add a note at the top.
